Phoenix Rising FC has signed a French footballer Rémi Cabral, a dynamic midfielder who recently showcased his talents with Colorado Rapids 2 in MLS Next Pro.
Born on July 10, 1999, Cabral made his mark on American soil when he joined LA Galaxy II in April 2021. After a successful stint, he followed his brother Kevin's footsteps and joined Colorado Rapids 2 in Feb 2023. Proving his mettle quickly, Cabral went on to sign a short-term deal that saw him dazzling on the Major League Soccer stage by May of the same year.
His remarkable performance in 2023 earned him the MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot, an accolade that speaks volumes about his prowess on the field. Erik Bushey, Rapids 2 Head Coach, couldn't contain his pride. “I really couldn't be happier for Rémi to receive this recognition,” he said. "He has proven he can score goals in a number of ways and can do so when the spotlight is shining brightest."
Not only did Cabral bag the Golden Boot, but he also made it to the MLS NEXT Pro Best XI, further cementing his place as a force to be reckoned with in the soccer world.
Phoenix Rising Head Coach Danny Stone is excited about what Cabral brings to the team. “Remi offers both sides of what we are looking for in a player in his position," said Stone. "He adds a dynamic element to the group because of his physical attributes but he also plays well and combines with his teammates. Remi is coming off a 19-goal season, so I expect him to come in with confidence."
Stone also had high praise for Cabral's character. “Equally significant, I’ve heard nothing but good things about him as a person and a teammate," he added.
The club announced today that Cabral is joining Phoenix Rising FC on loan from Colorado Rapids. Cabral himself is eager to bring his unique skill set to the team. “I had been playing more as an attacking midfielder with LA Galaxy II,” said Cabral. “I always felt I had more finishing ability in me and last season, when I joined Colorado, they asked me to play as a nine. I was like ‘why not?’ In my first season at that position, I was fortunate enough to win the golden boot.”
