Phoenix Rising FC, one of the more "esteemed" clubs in the USL, lost 4-0 to Sacramento Republic last night, it was a stark reminder that even the most formidable teams can have off days.

The match started off on a average note, with both sides showing a somewhat competitive spirit. However, Rising’s defense was breached at the 20-minute mark when Keko, assisted by Jack Gurr, netted the first goal for Sacramento Republic. The goal set the tone for the rest of the game, with Phoenix Rising FC struggling to regain their footing.

In what can only be described as a momentum shift, Russell Cicerone further extended Sacramento's lead with a goal at the 28-minute mark. This was followed by Zeiko Lewis, assisted by Ferrety Sousa, who scored another goal for Sacramento at the 38-minute mark.

The first half ended with a final blow to Phoenix Rising FC when Jack Gurr, this time assisted by Keko, scored the fourth goal for Sacramento Republic at the 43-minute mark. The Rising’s defense was visibly shaken, and their offense unable to penetrate the solid Republic defense.

The match was a difficult one to watch, the team which has shown resilience on many occasions, seemed outplayed and outpaced throughout the match. This loss to Sacramento Republic could be the wakeup call Phoenix Rising needs. A chance to regroup, reassess, and come back stronger. The coaching staff and players will undoubtedly take this defeat as an opportunity to learn and improve. The strong fanbase of the Rising will also be looking forward to a stronger comeback.

Phoenix Rising must now focus on Monterey Bay who they take on this Saturday at Cardinale Stadium, to keep the overall support of the team Phoenix MUST get a win against Monterey
