Welcome to week 7 of the 2023 season! This week, Rising (1-1-3 6 points) travels to San Antonio (3-1-2 11 points) for another western conference showdown. Last year Rising had the number of San Antonio defeating them both times 3-0 and 2-0. San Antonio went on to win the USL Championship last year.
Recapping last week, San Antonio lost their first game of the year last week to a string eastern opponent, Louisville. Louisville's Wilson Harris had the lone goal of the game in the 23rd minute. San Antonio controlled possession with 52% compared to Louisville's 48%.
Last week Rising drew Monterey Bay 1-1. Goals came in the 63rd minute after a penalty goal by Dixon and an equalizer by Lambert in the 67th minute. Rising controlled possession having 61% but they only tested the keeper once, which resulted in a goal. Monterey Bay had 5 shots the entire game but had 3 on target to test Rocco who had a last second fingertip save to keep the game even. Another nervous game watching our defense struggle to keep attacks at bay. So far this year when a team puts pressure on Rising's back line it leaves fans biting their fingernails. While rising has shown some strong attacking movements when they play direct, the keeping possession and passing game so far has not done it for rising.
The game kicks off at 5:30 Arizona time, and Phoenix is looking to earn another 3 points.
