PREGAME: 9/17 Rising @ San Diego

Rising is making its way to the end of the season with only 6 games left in the season and two of those being home. Rising currently sits in 12th place with 32 points, but mathematically have not been eliminated from the playoffs. Although hopes are dwindling.

Last week Rising took on Juan’s former club, Oakland. My expectation for that game was that Juan would know the ins and outs, strengths and weaknesses of the entire team. But I was proven wrong as Rising came out looking unmotivated, unprepared and humiliated as Oakland controlled the game with a 2-0 win. But Rising did what Juan said was a goal of his coming to the team, win the possession game. Rising controlled the possession 67% while Oakland had 33% but that doesn’t really matter when you only get 1 shot on target.

San Diego is entering this game in a comfy 2nd place but technically they haven’t clinched their spot in the playoffs still. San Diego has 52 points and is being chased closely by Colorado and Sacramento. While Rising is in a poor run of form, San Diego is in the same boat with only 1 win in the last 5 games, the remaining 4 games were losses.

Players to watch for SD is obviously the highly dangerous Vassell who has 12 goals this year. Adam’s is leading the way in assists and chances created. In order for Rising to have a chance in this match, they must neutralize these two and the dynamic attacking threat.
